Reiki
(pronounced 'ray-key')
Reiki in its original Japanese form had the emphasis very much
on self-healing and spiritual development. Certainly the practice
of Reiki is based on working with, and channelling energy, or a
spiritual energy.
In India they think in terms of chakras:
Which are energy centres running the length of your body from the
crown of your head to the base of your spine. There are seven
main ones and further subsidiary ones in other locations.
Reiki has important similarities to conventional spiritual healing.
It is not attached to any religion or belief system; therefore
it does not conflict with an individual's beliefs, or lack of beliefs,
so Reiki is acceptable to atheists and believers alike, agnostics
and Catholics, Moslems and Pagans.
The energy knows where to go, and what to do once it gets there,
the energy flows to and within the recipient. Reiki will bring
the body, mind, and spirit back to its natural state.
Reiki draws through the healer exactly that amount of energy that
the recipient needs. All this happens without direct conscious
intervention by the healer. The healers job is to keep the healing
space open, and to watch/listen for signs of what to do next.
What to expect during your treatment
The session begins by lying down on a treatment couch, fully clothed,
closing your eyes and listening to gentle, soothing music. The
treatment room is warm, light and airy.
Reiki healing is very simply performed; the practitioner places
his or her hands upon you, non-intrusively, in a series of positions
from the crown of the head to the feet. Each hand position is held
for a few minutes, and during this time healing energy will flow
into you, balancing your energy system, releasing stress, soothing
pain, and promoting your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
